The Mobile Youth Wellness Hub

Your United Way has committed to fundraising $300,000 to support the launch of the Mobile Youth Wellness Hub over the next three years. This project is one of seven community collaborative projects your United Way has committed $2.1 million to over the next three years to support our efforts to bring together community partners to address complex social issues across Simcoe Muskoka

The Issue

Accessing the right care or resources in the right place at the right time is a difficult task. Surveys and feedback from young clients served in Muskoka have shown barriers to care such as: not knowing where to start, lack of cultural sensitivity and knowledge of traditional practice, confusing terminology and processes, lack of local options of care, mismatched service to need, lack of personal support, high cost of service, lack of transportation, and long waiting times.

The Solution

The Hub will create safe and inclusive gathering spaces for youth by purchasing a youth-designed RV bus equipped with indoor space for small group meetings, a private office for consultations, and necessary equipment for activities/events. The mobile hub will make scheduled stops in underserved rural and isolated communities.

The Mobile Youth Wellness Hub will be accessible on an individual basis as requested and will also be a regular presence at schools, events, camps and local gathering places. One of the goals of this project is to unite youth across remote areas of Muskoka and equip them with the tools and support they need to achieve their goals. The Mobile Youth Wellness Hub offers culturally informed and indigenous led services.

Employee Spotlight: Rosi Martin, Relationship Manager/Events and Engagement

I love coordinating events that create opportunities for our communities to get involved in the work that we do. Whether it’s being part of a difficult dialogue around a complex social issue, hiking Horseshoe Mountain, creating memorable holiday experiences for the children in our community or walking in Coldest Night of the Year, I encourage everyone to get involved and have some fun along the way.
