United Way Simcoe Muskoka’s Workplace Campaign!

United Way Simcoe Muskoka’s Workplace Campaign!

If you look at our Honour Roll of individual and corporate leaders, you might notice something strange: United Way Simcoe Muskoka is on there! That’s because UWSM doesn’t just fundraise out in the community; we see the impact that our work has in Simcoe Muskoka and we want to support it ourselves.

That’s why we run a workplace campaign every fall. Through a series of in-office activities and via payroll deduction, we consistently make the list of our top fundraisers. Not only does this allow us to make an even greater impact on our communities and those who need it most, but it helps to keep our team engaged with our work and the good that donations can do.

This year, our workplace campaign team consisted of Alex, Katie and Tally, and they really put a lot of care and thought into engaging the entire UWSM staff. Over the course of two weeks, the office was host to a series of lunch-time special events and fundraisers.

To start things off, the office participated in a friendly bake-off competition, with donations being accepted to taste some of the delicious creations. Baked items included all sorts of cookies, cake pops, brittle, fudge and cheesecake.

The first week wrapped up with the office being converted into a mini-putt course. While none of the UWSM staff will be going pro with their putting skills anytime soon, it was a great way to encourage friendly competition!

Week two started with a grilled cheese and soup lunch, all prepared by some amazing cooks on the UWSM team. With the price of lunch being a small donation, we couldn’t find a better lunch deal anywhere else!

Later in the week, we played board games and participated in a scavenger hunt. With a bunch of healthy and sweet snacks, everyone had some good laughs and went back to work feeling energized and with smiles on our faces.

Finally, our workplace campaign wrapped up with a combination of events. The first was guessing who each staff member was based on a childhood photo of them, which is a lot harder than it sounds! The second event was the staff-favourite music bingo. It wouldn’t be a UWSM workplace campaign without music bingo.

When the two weeks of events were over, our team felt reinvigorated and more engaged than ever. It’s easy for anyone to get so involved in work that you forget about the impact your daily work has, and this series of special events was a great way to bring the team closer together and give us all an extra boost of enthusiasm in the office.

After the proceeds from all the special events were counted and pledge forms were returned, United Way Simcoe Muskoka met our fundraising goal. And of our 21 staff, every single UWSM employee participated in at least one of the special events.

It’s important for our team to be involved in the good we do across Simcoe Muskoka. More than just laughing over lunchtime, our workplace campaign is a way for us to understand the impact that we have as individuals and as a team. And it’s a ton of fun, too!
