About the Furniture Bank

Furniture is something that many of us take for granted, but a house cannot be a home without these basic necessities. Without a place to call home, your dignity and your social and mental health suffer.

The Furniture Bank is helping to change that for Simcoe Muskoka residents who can’t afford to furnish their house. Whether someone is transitioning out of homelessness, leaving an abusive or dangerous household or is one of the more than 60,000 Simcoe Muskoka residents living in poverty, the Furniture Bank is helping to make houses into homes. Furthermore, the Furniture Bank is providing Living Wage employment and skill-building opportunities to individuals living in low-income.

The Furniture Bank also helps the environment and our communities by diverting used furniture from going to the landfill. It’s estimated that Simcoe County will save $500,000 in waste management costs every year thanks to the Furniture Bank, reducing the garbage in our landfill and helping everyone’s tax dollars go further.
