This week marks National Volunteer Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the individuals who give their time, energy, and expertise to strengthen our communities. The scale of volunteerism in Canada is truly remarkable. According to Volunteer Canada, in 2023, Canadians contributed 4.1 billion hours of volunteer work, representing an estimated $45 to $50 billion in economic value. Behind those numbers are people who care deeply about making a difference.
This year’s theme, Ignite Volunteerism, speaks to the powerful role volunteers play in sparking change, fostering connection, and building resilient communities. At United Way Simcoe Muskoka, we see that impact every day.
Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. From providing strategic direction as members of our Board of Directors to supporting fundraising efforts, from helping with special events to making funding decisions as members of our standing committees, their contributions are essential to advancing our mission.
To those who volunteer, thank you.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to get involved locally, please consider putting your name forward to join our Board of Directors. Your voice, perspective, and leadership can help shape the future of your community.
Together, we can continue to ignite change where it matters most.

Your United Way in Action
Through the YWCA Muskoka-Getting Ahead Across Muskoka project, individuals facing isolation, food insecurity, housing instability, and limited access to mental health supports are finding new pathways forward.
At its core, the program is about equipping people with the tools, confidence, and knowledge to access their rights, navigate resources, and take control of their future.
One graduate shared a powerful reflection that continues to resonate: “Keep every stone that’s thrown at you,-you’ll need it to build your castle.”
Congratulations to every graduate. Your perseverance and determination are a powerful reminder of what is possible when people are supported to thrive.
