Women United is a powerful force for social change, where women are key drivers of philanthropy in Simcoe Muskoka through both giving and volunteering.
Empowering Women and Girls in Simcoe Muskoka
Since 2015, Women United has invested over $83,000 in impactful programs, prioritizing support and skills to empower girls and women out of cycles of poverty. They aid in job retention, professional growth, and financial autonomy, while providing essential life skills and strategies.
In November 2025, United Way Simcoe Muskoka’s Women United proudly announced the recipients of the 2025 Women United Grants. Two impactful projects were selected: Community Living Huntsville’s Kitchen Connections and Gateway Centre for Learning’s Everyday Money for Women based in Midland.
Kitchen Connections, a 12-month, hands-on program delivered monthly, focuses on empowering mothers and their children through practical life skills, financial literacy, nutrition education, and social connection. Each session brings together a group of mothers in a welcoming environment where they learn budgeting and grocery planning, prepare nutritious and affordable meals, and build confidence in managing household food and finances. Participants share meals together during each session and take prepared meals home to their families, extending the program’s benefits beyond the classroom. Just as importantly, Kitchen Connections fosters meaningful peer connections that reduce isolation and support positive mental well-being.
Everyday Money for Women is a financial literacy and empowerment initiative that aims to build confidence, knowledge, and economic resilience among women from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Designed as a series of accessible, judgment-free workshops, the program breaks down financial concepts into practical, everyday steps—focusing on budgeting, saving, debt management, financial planning, and long-term stability. The initiative is particularly tailored to women who may face systemic barriers, including single mothers, women with low to moderate incomes, BIPOC and immigrant women, those re-entering the workforce, individuals navigating early careers, and women experiencing major life transitions such as divorce or retirement.
In addition to the grant awards, Women United continues to strengthen local supports by directing a portion of its funds to United Way Simcoe Muskoka’s Community Collaborative Projects that support women and children, including, The Art Engagement Project, The Mobile Youth Wellness Hub, and Finding Home. Together, this funding reflects Women United’s dedication to addressing root causes, responding to lived experiences, and creating pathways to long-term stability and empowerment. By investing in programs that build skills, confidence, and community connection, Women United is helping women and families not only meet today’s challenges, but thrive well into the future.
