Virtual Day of Caring

Show your #LocalLove on August 25, 2021!

Let’s come together and show our communities we care

One of the things that makes communities great is our capacity to come together and help one another.

For years, individuals and organizations have shown their support for Simcoe Muskoka communities by partnering with United Way Simcoe Muskoka is a Day of Caring. These special days leveraged the kindness and power of volunteers to help those who need it most.

Over the past year and a half, we have seen struggles and hurdles raised and made worse by the pandemic, But we have also seen some incredible acts of compassion.

Now, as it looks like the worst of the pandemic is behind us, we are encouraging our workplace partners and everyone in our communities to come together once again for a Virtual Day of Caring.

On Wednesday, August 25, we encourage anyone and everyone to think of creative ways to help our communities through acts of kindness, and share them on social media! Some ideas could include:

  • Offer to help a neighbour with an outdoor project
  • Call an elderly friend or family member
  • Drop off treats or a meal for a loved one
  • Pick up litter on your street, in a park or along a lakefront
  • Send a letter with well wishes
  • Draw some inspirational chalk art on the sidewalk
  • Paint rocks or make signs to spread positive messages

Want to get together with some friends and make something more impactful? We have put together a DIY guide that includes ideas for kits for kids, homemade masks, feminine hygiene kits, cozy cocoa kits and many more!

These are just a handful of ideas to get you started, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with! Whatever you do to show your #LocalLove on August 25, please make sure to respect public health and social distancing guidelines. Have fun and stay safe!

Don’t forget to share your pictures on social using #DayOfCaring and tag @UWSimcoeMuskoka on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram so we can share your acts of kindness!
