A unique social enterprise is now part of UWSM
United Way Simcoe Muskoka ensures that every dollar goes as far as possible for the people you want to help in our community. In addition to the long tradition of local fundraising and the familiar employee giving campaigns the organization has sought to create other sources of revenue to generate even more community impact.
It operates a unique social enterprise – an inbound call centre that assists eligible households experiencing challenges with energy costs. By administering these programs through agreements with Ontario utilities UWSM earns revenue. Our customer service representatives are able to assist with the application process and also make referrals to other community supports when needed.
The Call Centre has created 12 jobs, assists thousands of applicants, and the revenue earned offsets organization expenses and is invested back into the community in collaborative projects that focus on solutions to social issues.
